I am book editor and my husband is motion graphic designer. We have three children and we are homeschoolers. We are waiting for a answer from the immigration to find a place to rent in Auckland, that's why we thought be better to be house sitters for a while. Besides, last month me and my family were house sitters for my friends, who went to Brazil for weeks and was a amazing experience (if you want, they told us they could give some references, and our actual landlord as well). So, we think will be great to do this more times. :) You could think: but you are a BIG family, but our motivation to improve our English and to permit new experiences for our children give us total responsibility with the house and the pet we are caring for. Further regarding pet, we used to have a cat like a part of our family, but when we had decided to discover the world, we needed to let her with my relative. So my children miss one pet to play and to walk together. While we've lived in Wellington (for months) we learned how caring houses and gardens in New Zealand (and I, particularly,love caring the garden).
