Hello,

I'm Judith.  I'm a former lawyer and social worker; I worked for nonprofits for many years.  Then I became an independent consultant for nonprofits and other social justice groups and generally worked remotely.  I am currently semi-retired.

I was a homeowner in Portland, Oregon, USA for many years and I am familiar with old houses, maintenance and emergencies.  I like to garden (vegetable and perennial), paint, go thrift shopping, cooking, and traveling.  I'm also trying to write a book about solo women travelers.

I just returned from six months of solo traveling in the United Kingdom and Europe.  It started with a Workaway assignment as a chef/cook in southwest France.  Then I did petsitting exclusively in England and Scotland (Trusted Housesitter; s:// and received 5 star reviews.  I did two HomeExchanges in France, and stayed in a monastery/convent.  Each experience taught me to be flexible and resilient, no matter the situation.

I prefer longer sits (more than 2 weeks), particularly if I need to travel.  I'm based in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, but my passport is well used and I'm always packed ready to go.

I like dogs.  I can't do big dogs (unless they are really well trained) because I'm very petite and would have trouble holding back a 100 pound dog that wants to run after something or engage in anti-social behavior.  My own dog (now long passed) was a 90 pound Border Collie/Australian Shepherd but was as gentle as he could be.  I love Border Collies and other herding dogs.

I love cats, of all kinds.  My most recent experience living with cats was a pair of Maine Coons.  I was a good human servant to them.  My first cat as an adult was a beautiful 16 pound Russian Blue.  I have learned independence and dignity from cats.

I hope you will consider me for your next housesitting need.

To Whom It May Concern...

We have been using HouseCarers.com for almost 12 years now and I mention this so you know how much we rely on its services.

Initially, we asked Judith to dog & house sit for us while we were away on a month-long business trip in France. I could tell during our initial interview three weeks prior she was the one to go with.

Judith was forthcoming and answered all my questions in detail during our interview. (And she had some for me as well.) So I said yes on the spot, which I never do, and she and I committed to the dates.

That interview occurred weeks before our departure and shortly after our dachshund suffered a spinal trauma that put him in constant pain and greatly inhibited his ability to move around. We tried resolve this health issue before our departure but were unable to do so.

Regardless, Judith remained committed to the house sit, even though she knew our new situation would add a lot of duties she had not agree to execute, and I offered her the option of backing out. In the end she took care of our dog as carefully as we would have, and truthfully, she saved his life. (He is currently in Mexico City recovering from a successful spinal surgery, which he would not have lived to without Judith's care and attention.)

I simply want to state Judith was outstanding in every possible way She stayed in touch with me whenever I needed information. She also took on extra duties, one of which was driving 40 minutes each way multiple times to pick up meds from our vet neurologist when we were unable to move the prescriptions closer to her.

Upon our return, late at night, Judith stayed long enough to do a full hand off and fill us in on the details of our dog's care and condition. I cannot express how grateful we are for her assistance.

She also cleaned the house way beyond our expectations. It was cleaner than how we left it and we clean our house before a sitter comes in.

So here is the bottom line: if you are thinking of asking Judith to house sit for you stop thinking about it and say yes – because she won't disappoint you.

I will be reaching out to Judith for any future dog/house sitting needs. With our dog back in full health it will be a completely different experience for her and I hope she will accept again.

I realize this review may perhaps come across as too glowing, too positive, but it is all true and I'll be happy to talk to anyone who has a question about it.

And again, Judith, thank you for sticking with us.

I don't know what we would have done without you...?
