“We enjoyed hosting Nancy Hawkins. She’s a neat lady, very interesting and a great conversationalist. She left the cottage ship shape and we appreciated her forgiving nature when a few things went awry.” (Quote from my hosts, Cherie and Tom, Sonora, CA)
From my experiences with homes and B & B accommodations, I have learned that staying in a comfortable home is my preferred way of travel. That is why I would love to take care of your treasured home while you are away, plus give your pets, plants and any other items my special attention. I own a townhouse with a xeriscaped yard and a deck that I just had replaced where I like to hang out with the birds and bugs. I have always had the responsibility of pets since childhood, and I now have a 15-pound Schnoodle named Gus who also hangs on the deck with me enjoying the sun. He is a certified therapy dog who travels with me wherever I go. My husband and I had two black cats when we adopted Gus and he likes to snuggle with kitties, IF they let him! I also have been a certified Rover host with many types of dogs under my care because their owners entrusted me with their precious fur babies.
My husband, now deceased, was a professional musician, as am I. He was a bassoonist and taught at the University of Kansas, and I am an organist and retired KU music librarian. I have music degrees from Kansas State University and KU, plus post-graduate work at Emporia State University. In my distant past, I have been a member of a U.S. Army Band and now play euphonium in the New Horizons Band of Lawrence. I thoroughly enjoy retirement because of the flexibility I have to travel and to make my own schedule. Living in the center of the United States is very convenient because it’s equal distance to anyplace I want to explore—like your neighborhood!
Lastly, I want to assure you that I do not smoke nor drink to excess, I have great health, both physically AND mentally, and I have no criminal record. However, just because I am a librarian, don’t think of me as the stereotype—life experiences have made me wise to the ways of the world, and I know how to handle situations that might be harmful to me or my property. Therefore, since I am vetted by Rover and Loving Paws Animal Therapy Program, I think those 2 organizations give me credibility to take thoughtful and loving care of your pets and home while you are away. I would love to share my references with you when you phone, or FaceTime me about house sitting. Thank you!
“Nancy is the ideal guest. She is quiet, respectful and friendly. We enjoyed a nice conversation, she has such a joy for life. I would highly recommend Nancy to any host!” (Quote from my first host, Gaelena, Santa Rosa, CA)
