Hello! My husband and I are looking for a housesitter to care for our three cats while we're away for approximately three weeks this fall. Our modest home is located in Iowa City, home of the famous Iowa Writer's Workshop and the University of Iowa. September and October generally bring the year’s most beautiful weather to this area, and our neighborhood is brilliant with fall colors.
While our neighborhood is quiet, the downtown area and the University are within walking distance. A good grocery store is two blocks away. There are lots of great restaurants in town, a good shopping nearby, bike trails, and walking trails in the parks.
Our home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a luxuriously large bathtub! Birds, raccoons, and deer are frequent visitors in our neighborhood, which is laced with wooded ravines. Our back deck overlooks a ravine and is a great place to eat breakfast or lunch. We also have a patio and a front deck, both of which are nice places to relax outdoors.
Our cats need basic care--they are fed twice daily, and appreciate having their litter boxes cleaned every day. They may also demand some lap time! If any problems were to arise, our housesitter would have the responsibility of taking cats to the vet. Sitters must love cats and be experienced in their care. Other than that, sitters would only be expected to water a few plants and mow our small backyard if necessary. Raking leaves is optional!
Iowa City is located near some nice attractions, such as the Amana Colonies, Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and Presidential Library, and the Amish community of Kalona (fantastic quilts!). We are less than an hour's drive from the Mississippi River and some interesting and scenic river towns along its banks.
We look forward to hearing from anyone interested in this opportunity!
