My twenty-year old daughter and I have been living in Indian Land together for the past 7 years. Mary is currently a student at York Tech working towards her Dental Hygiene degree. She is a great student who is responsible beyond her years, choosing not to drink, smoke or do things that her peers are involved with. She is focused on being the best she can be as a person. She helped lead her high school basketball team to the district championship for the first time in forever. I am a 54 year old man who left my special education teacher career a couple years back. I have been a model citizen throughout my adult life and choose not to drink, smoke or do anything else which risks my life. I am the CEO of Bourgeon Academy, am a Special Education Advocate as well as owning a publishing company InteGREATity Publications LLC. We love the peace and quiet and do very little entertaining, as our home is where we prefer to get away.
I have lived at the same residence in Indian Land since it was built in 2003. The house is on the market and expected to sell this month. We plan to leave Indian Land for the Rock Hill/York area which gives us some seperation from Charlotte. We prefer to sell or give away all of our furniture and take just what we need to our next residence. I really prefer not to buy a home at this time or rent a home. In fact, at this age, I would like to have the flexibility to stay at a residence for a period of time, be it 6 weeks to however long needed. I was looking for an alternative to owning/renting and Home Sitting came to mind. In between assignments, I can travel and do the work for Burgeon in other areas of the country. I went through a very rough patch financially a couple years back and without paying a mortgage/rent, this would be very helpful in building the nest egg I pretty much lost when my kids Mom and I divorced in 2003. We have a son who has autism which caused stressers in our life which contributed to our seperation. As a teacher, I really have never recovered financially for retirement and the opportunity is now.
I have the character qualities to be trusted in peoples homes be it overnight to years+. I love to see how others live. When I travel, I prefer to avoid the touristy areas and where the local people go and love. It is so fascinating looking at not just the differences but more importantly how people are like me. I learn so much from their environment. So, house sitting also serves as a learning experience. We prefer to live in well kept homes which have a strong sense of people performing the Art of Living. The home does not have to be huge, but has the space which allows me to have the creative space as a CEO, writer, and contemplator. We prefer to be able to come into a home and not have the attachments of neighbors. We are very friendly but really don't feel the need to be active participants in the neighborhood. Sitting gives us a life where there is not attachment to the neighborhood. This brings me back to my ultimate reason for doing this "freedom."
