I am a semi-retired (do we ever really retire?) 62 year old non-smoking male making my living out of my hobby as a portrait and real estate photographer.
In a previous life I was a financial adviser for 30 years.
In 2008 my wife and I split up and I embarked on a house sitting journey around new Zealand. I did this for 6 years and saw NZ as far north as Whangarei and South as Christchurch (just after the earthquake and that was quite an experience while I was sitting a house high on Bank's peninsula).
I have sat a variety of homes from Dairy Farms, to small units with one cat. I've even sat where my sole duty was to look after the fish in an aquarium.
Having been brought up on a farm and lived on big properties most of my life I am pretty handy around the place with a practical mind as far as solutions are concerned - I can usually find the easiest and best solution to a problem if one arises.
4 Years ago I landed up in Hamilton and worked in a camera shop which was fun.
I haver recently returned to the Rodney district as our first grandchild is on the way and I want to be close at hand, I figured I could have some fun taking photos of him or her.
am a non smoker and and enjoy the odd wine or whiskey in the evenings with my meal - talking of meals I am a vegan; one of those strange people who eat neither meat nor dairy! :)
However I used to eat a lot of both (especially cheese) so I am not rabid about the Vegan thing and don't preach it.
Why I want to house-sit (again!)
I am looking for something short term while I establish exactly where I want to live and possibly set-up a studio. Ideally I would like to buy my own place but if the right situation arises I would take a long term rental.
Not sure how long this will take to decide - could be 3 months or it could be a year or more, I'll just let things take whatever time is needed.
In the meanwhile if I could network and establish my name as a portrait and real-estate photographer I am happy to take things as they come.
For this reason I prefer to have longer house-sits.
What I bring to your Home
I bring a lot of house-sitting and life experience with me and as a quiet and sober minded type you can rest assured that your house and whatever animals you have will be well taken care of.
Unless out on a photographic assignment I will be "home" all day providing company for your pets and security for your home.
I would prefer that your house is a non-smoking one that is well insulated - dry and warm as well as neat and tidy.
I must have access to the Internet and would love a nice comfortable room and bed. I don't have to have the master bedroom but please don't ask me to sleep in a tiny room where there is no space to hang my clothes.
Somewhere where one could "swing a cat" - although I promise not to swing yours!
Hopefully you will be happy for me to bring my Espresso machine as I love my one cup of good coffee in the morning.
I have references from past sits and happy to dig them up if required.
