My husband Vince and I sold or donated all of our stuff, and moved to Mexico full time in June As fun-loving Mexico adventurers, we thought housesitting would be the perfect way to explore the country in order to decide where to eventually (if ever) stay permanently, as we haven't seen all of Mexio yet. I have just retired from over 20 years in finance, and Vince is a registered nurse, who designs computer software for an Ontario hospital and continues to work remotely from here. We are a respectful couple, have house and pet sitting experience in Mexico, and are very diligent about ensuring we leave our sits as we find them. As people who want to live out the rest of our life together in Mexico, it is valuable to experience the pros and cons of owning a house in there, and house sitting allows for this experience. It also enables us to discover the country more affordably, which means we can see and do even more! When people ask me why I want to live in Mexico, I tell them because it's warm, the people are wonderful, and the food is amazing. When people ask Vince, he always says the same thing: "The three Cs - cost, climate, and culture." It's hard to poke a hole in that argument.
As house sitters we've had to deal with a number of "Mexi-centric" issues such as a run-on tinaco, an over-flowing pool, and a broken electrical pole. We approach these issues through the eyes of the home owner, and figure out the most sensible path forward. We have been home owners in Canada for 25 years, but are convinced that when we finally find a place to call home in Mexico, we will be that much better equipped as a result of house sitting there. Vince is quite handy, so minor household surprises are dealt with easily. We've owned and/or had experience with a variety of animals including some farm animals, and as an active couple who really enjoys walking, would enjoy taking dogs with us. We've had a diabetic cat in the recent past that required daily insulin injections, and growing up I rode, and cared for horses, which included administering medications and injections.
