Hello! We're Julia and Jon and we'd like for you to get to know us a little bit.
A little about us: We are a professional American expat couple in our early 40's (we'll just round down for Jon ;-) Last year we lost both of our cats of 15 yrs. We do not have kids so we really miss the energy and company of having pets in our home. We both work part time from home, Julia designs online educational video courses and Jon works in marketing consulting. Since our careers are portable your furry loved ones will have a lot of human time with us.
Giving Back: We are both active with charitable endeavors. Julia served on the board of I Will Stand, a non-profit that works to rescue, restore and empower women who have been victims of human trafficking or domestic violence. Jon currently volunteers with Mujeres Con Exito (Women With Success) an after care women's shelter in Cuenca Ecuador.
Our experience: Between us we have visited, lived in, and/or worked in over 50 countries. (The cats lived in 3!) Just like all seasoned travelers, we have learned to be creative problem solvers, adaptable, make friends quickly, and be comfortable in different surroundings. Jon worked in the hospitality industry and has actually stayed in over 500 properties. Ask him about his some of his more adventurous visits to Papua New Guinea, Eritrea or Cuba. Or ask Julia about when she moved to live for a few years in the Middle East and bought a roundtrip ticket for a friend - just so that she could travel in the cabin with two cat carriers! We now enjoy a MUCH slower pace of life. You're most likely to find us on a couch with laptops and pets. House sitting allows us to take in the local culture, get to know neighbors, and be a part of a local community (even if just for a while).
We've been in your shoes! Julia always worried about our pets and home when we needed to travel, and we refused to board them. We had friends stop in and care for them but we couldn't expect our pets to be their top priority. Understandably, they had to contend with their own jobs, property maintenance and pet care. We also hired pet sitters to come twice a day but it was expensive, and we felt that we had to check in to make sure they actually showed up.
Now that our beloved pets have passed away, we love caring for other people's pets. This has turned into international house sitting where we combine our flexible lifestyle and would love to take care of your home, pets and plants.
We have a lot of experience with vet visits, administering meds, and closely monitoring older animals. We really consider animals to be family. As an example, when we moved to Ecaudor to live, we couldn't find higher end pet food without chemicals and additives like you can find in the States. Julia actually cooked pet food for the cats from fresh ingredients every week. (they LOVED it!)
When we are house sitting we work for you. We like to establish expectations and clear lines of communication (we're always available for checking in). We act as a link to your life back home while you're away and we keep you updated on anything important that may come up. Julia looks after the house and Jon handles any maintenance issues. Jon usually walks any big dogs while Julia is the cat whisperer. We obviously do typical things like getting mail, groundskeeping, caring for plants, meeting home service companies, etc. But if you have a unique requirement just let us know. Our schedule and location are very flexible, making it easy for us to plan our itinerary around your travel needs.
We've been blessed to see much of the world and we love helping others travel worry-free. So go, have fun, and leave the rest to us! We're looking forward to chatting soon.
