Although I am quiet, I make friends easily due to my interest in people. That's probably why I became a psychotherapist! My dream retirement is to live and learn about other cultures as well as experience more of the United States. I have already lived in Bali, Singapore, six months each, and for the last two months, in Costa Rica. I find that while there are cultural differences, we all want the same things for ourselves and our loved ones. I would require a non-smoking home, and I do not drink alcohol, as I am allergic to both. I am also a qigong master, an ancient Chinese health exercise similar to t'ai chi, that comes from my father's lineage. When I stayed in Costa Rica, I was asked to teach qigong and also held individual, couple and group qigong healing sessions while I stayed there.
Having escaped from Communist China as a young child, I grew up in New York City where my parents owned a laundrymat. Later, my family owned a chicken farm in New Jersey. I've also lived on Maui and Oahu, islands in Hawaii, am currently in Los Angeles, California. In addition to English, I speak Cantonese fluently, can carry on a basic conversation in Mandarin and French.
I received my Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Rutgers University, New Jersey, and obtained my License in Clinical Social Work (LDSW). I've counseled in the fields of foster care for Vietnamese Boat Children, women's issues, established a clinical private practice specializing in trauma work, consulted with top executives on issues of diversity at AT&T, and taught qigong at the Castle Medical Center in Hawaii. Before I retired, I was social work supervisor, then acting program director, at several senior health care centers, all participants having been diagnosed with physical and, or, mental illness. The different ethnic groups I served were Iranian, Armenian, Latino, Phillipino, Chinese, and American. If you were to ask the staff's perspective of me, they would tell you that I don't back down and decide in favor of the participant. If you were to ask the participants about me, they would say that I was unfailingly kind, listened well, and that I understood them.
I haven't had extensive experience house sitting, although I am doing so for friends these several weeks. I have, however, owned a home for 15 years and know what it takes to maintain one in good condition. I always kept where I lived clean, whether owned or rented. And, I would treat your home in the same manner. I admit that I'm no master chef; however, if you like and provided I can get the proper ingredients, I would love to welcome you home with an authentic Chinese meal.
Thank you so much for reading about me. I look forward to hearing from you to see if I am suitable for your home situation.
