Who We Are
Hi! We are Suzanne and Jim, a couple who has recently retired. We are American citizens who currently reside in the state of Connecticut. We love to travel to learn about people and other cultures.
Suzanne was a copy editor for magazines and books. Her undergraduate degree is in psychology/sociology, and her graduate degree is in American studies. Her interests include reading, listening to music, visiting museums, hiking, going to movies, and watching soccer (i.e., football). She believes in the concept of lifelong learning. She also believes that it is imperative to learn as much of the native language she can of any country she visits--not only because it's fun and educational but also because it's respectful and gives one a better insight into the culture.
Jim was a high-school history teacher. His undergraduate and graduate degrees are in history. His interests include reading, cycling, golfing, and watching soccer and baseball. He also believes in the concept of lifelong learning (and wishes he had the same facility with languages that Suzanne has). He believes that it is crucial while traveling not only to enjoy oneself but also to pay homage to those who have suffered in the past by visiting sites dedicated to their memory.
Our favorite quote is from Mark Twain, who said, "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." We strongly believe that.
We currently have one cat and have had several cats as companions over the years--all rescue animals. We feel that they have enriched our lives beyond measure and that it is a privilege to share our lives with them.
Why We Want to House-Sit
Throughout our life together, we have traveled quite a bit in Europe and the United States. Because we are now retired, we want to experience these places on a deeper level. We look forward to getting immersed in the local culture and not having to live out of a suitcase while doing it.
What We Can Provide as House Sitters
We are a responsible, reliable, down-to-earth, pleasant, nonsmoking couple who know how to take care of a house and pets. We've owned a home for nearly twenty years, and have shared our lives with animals for more than thirty years.
For those who have companion animals: When we've traveled in the past, we have used cat sitters to look after our cats. While traveling, we feel that it is important that our pets are nurtured and cared for while we are on vacation. So we understand what you need from us as house sitters: reliable, caring, responsible people who will attend to your pets' needs. Although our experience of pet sitting for friends and neighbors has mainly been with cats, we would be more than willing to take care of other companion animals as well.
