Hi, I'm Maggie. I'm a retired Health worker, having spent over 30 years working in hospitals in England and New Zealand both for the NHS and Private sector and I now volunteer for the local Exeter Theatre working Front of House and backstage. With my husband being self-employed and still working full time and my children grown up (one in the Armed Forces, the other in New Zealand) I thought it time for me to try something new! I love to travel and meet new people and have a Permanent Returning Residents Visa for NZ which was granted to me in 2005 whilst working and living in Christchurch. For personal reasons, we had to return to the UK after the 2011 earthquakes, but I didn’t think I’d never return.
Eight years on (and many return flights to NZ later!) I find I am thinking more and more about returning to New Zealand to live, but feel I need to spend more than just the normal 3 weeks holiday to get the feel of the place again. Not wanting to outstay my welcome with friends, I thought house sitting in NZ would be a great way to get to know the place again. I have a clean bill of health, am a non-smoker but do enjoy the occasional glass of wine or real ale! I have no criminal convictions and have a current Police Records Check for the UK which can be viewed on line. My NZ visa was renewed last year so police checks were carried out by NZ Immigration in the UK before applying the visa in my new passport. I am honest, trustworthy and reliable. I can supply the names of people for character references and also the name of my previous landlady of 3 years, for whom I also used to clean her holiday cottage between lets.
I do not drive, having never really felt the need to learn. I'm very good with Public Transport though and I ride a bike but don’t wear Lycra! I know how important people's homes, possessions and pets are to them, having lost mine in Mount Pleasant to the earthquakes, so I would treat your home and animals with the upmost respect. I am a bit wary of some dogs, having been bitten by one in the past, but I love cats, having had my first one when I was 3! My current moggy is an 8 year old rescue cat, Tom, who is rather unpredictable but has a lovely face. I hope that the above information might be of help to any house owners looking for a potential house sitter and should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.
