Retired professor from Education Faculty, University of Dundee, Scotland,after which I established my own summer school for English and Golf in St Andrews, where
I have lived for 33 years. I also did short term teaching contracts overseas in Gran Canaria, Germany, New Zealand and Indonesia
Prior to my university career I taught High School in several countries, including Australia and Canada.
Non-smoker, prefer fruit juice to alcohol, but can enjoy the occasional social drink, healthy and moderate menu, smart, clean and tidy personally and domestically.
Married school-girl sweetheart 45 years, widowed 9 years, 2 adult sons, 1 adult daughter.
Live in Scotland, but highly mobile.Owned a pleasant nine apartment home close to a sea loch in the Scottish West Highlands. Spend most of my time in the garden or
sailing on the loch. Now returned to St Andrews.
Took degrees in English & History from Glasgow University, Geography and Geology from London University and Education from Edinburgh University. I love to observe,
converse and learn.
Have UK, Canadian, Spanish and Indonesian driving licences. Have driven all over UK, Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, etc., and cruised all over the
world several times.
Main hobbies are travel, gardening and sailing.
Well trained in house-keeping by my mother who set up and ran a successful guest house in war-time Britain and after.
In my youth very much at home with domestic pets, especially dogs, but never had one, as my wife was allergic to dogs and cats. After she died I decided it would be
unfair to have a dog, in case it might outlive me. However, I am extremely fit and enjoy the privilege of caring for other people's dogs, even if only temporarily.
First house-sit was on the Sunshine Coast of B.C., Canada in In I house-sat in Wodonga, Victoria, for six weeks with cat and dogs. In I house-sat for 3 months near Mandurah, WA, with a dog. I had a return visit in Scotland from my Wodonga hostess and hope to have a visit soon from my Mandurah hosts.
Had a bad let-down north of Perth ten days before I was due to leave Wodonga, when I received strange cancellation . As I had my flight booked for Perth I went
there and to the home to collect birthday mail from my family. I met the lady, whose sad story was that her husband had suddenly deserted her. Her position was much
worse than mine. So I withdrew to Sutherland's Hotel in Perth where I had a marvelous holiday - my third time there. Do I add resilient to to my qualities?
In 2012 I had a 5 week house-sit in Sydney and a 7 week house-sit in Adelaide.
I have been to Australia 11 times since 1962 and think there is no place like it.
