We have a beautiful house, that is situated in a rural area, about 1 hours drive from Cologne and 1 hours drive from Luxemburg. It is very quiet. We and our extended family use it for occasional holidays. It contains 2 houses actually so one is free to use. There is a garden which needs some maintenance, you can walk throught the huge beech forests with all kinds of wildlife like wild swine and deer.You can grow your own vegetables on vulcanic soil, keep chicken and enjoy our grapes. A car is handy. There runs a bus through the village 1x per hour that goes to Gerolstein (6 km = 3,5 miles). Here you'll find supermarkets etc. and the railwaystation on the line from Cologne to the city of Trier.
We are Belgian by the way. Belgium is only a 40 minute drive. We live near Antwerps, which is a 2 hour drive. Maastricht, 1 hour drive in the Netherlands is also very much worth visiting.
