We are looking for a reliable, resourceful, experienced, and non-smoking couple or individual to mind our home and two pets from May 4,2023 through May 20, 2023. Your arrival would be on Thursday, May 4 for orientation and departure after morning tasks on Saturday,May 20. (We can be flexible for an earlier arrival and/or later departure to accommodate your travel.) No children or pets please. Besides keeping things tidy, tasks include twice daily feeding and companionship (walking, ball-throwing, etc) for one loving dog, once daily feeding of a older cat, bringing in the mail, watering plants, and just keeping an eye on the property in general. The very friendly dog loves to fetch a ball and plays outside often. The dog has the run of the property and loves walks around the property and hiking with folks.
Our house has a southern view from our ridge across the hills and is adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is 5 miles from Meadows of Dan,VA which has small food stores, a coffee shop, and friendly shops. We are 12 miles from the music-oriented Town of Floyd,VA . Floyd is home to the Floyd Country Store which hosts traditional music several nights a week, and Dogtown Roadhouse, also a music venue with a wide variety of artists. There are several restaurants in town, as well as a variety of stores with art and other wares.
There are 30 acres of varied terrain for walking on trails. House has high speed internet/wifi, cable TV (streaming ready), and the wonderful peace and quiet of a rural setting.
Temperatures for May average 60s F at night, and upper 70s F by day. Air conditioning is available but seldom needed . There is a spacious front porch for enjoying the view, as well as a ground level patio.
Yard care is done by a local contractor.
Recreation abounds in the area. The Parkway is great for cycling, and there are lots of hiking trails nearby.
We will provide thorough instructions, restaurant recommendations, links to our vet and contact info for local friends that can be great resources. Time permitting on your arrival day, we enjoy taking our sitters for a drive to Floyd for familiarization with the roads and sights.
