Please note that the date "needed" is somewhat flexible to the first part of November. Our house is a 2 bd / 2 ba two-story concrete constructed building on a hillside approx mile from the ocean with views of the Pacific and surrounding "huerta" farmland / valley. The ocean, within view, is about a 4 mile long beach, good for walking or at the north end for experienced surfing, but NOT for swimming. The best swimming beach is just over the hill behind us, about miles, a vigorous walk. We can hear the waves of the ocean at night, especially since we usually leave windows/slider open for the breeze El Pescadero has basic commodities, restaurants, gas, etc. Todos Santos is about 6 miles north with more amenities, tourist shops, galleries, restaurants and is picturesque; officially sanctioned as a "pueblo magico" by the MX tourist dept. Most permanent and/or long-term residents use La Paz (65 minutes north) or Cabo San Lucas minutes south) for major shopping and supply locations every week or every other week. Both destinations have so much to offer and explore. Due to the rural and somewhat isolated location of the property and town, it is nearly impossible not to have your own transportation. If not driving down, this can get extremely expensive through rental companies. MX auto insurance is mandatory The house sits on a 1 acre parcel w/some landscaped areas and some left natural, the bird watching is excellent. We have a gardener/grounds keeper that waters and tends to the property 3 times a week in the mornings. He is reliable, trustworthy and a genuine "gem." He does not speak english. Our "neighbors" - 1 full-time and 2 part-timers like us - share his services through the week. While the neighbors are within site, along with several other homes along the beach, the closest is still a 2-3 minute stroll along the road. There is a pool and spa that is cleaned and serviced twice a week by professionals. Any issues/problems will be handled by this company. Contact(s) do speak english. There are electricity lines to the house for power, a very large propane storage tank for heating hot water, cooking and heating the spa. We do not heat the pool for economic reasons and it can get chilly during the winter months when the evening temperatures dip down in the 50s or once in a while the 40s. The spa will typically heat up to 100 degrees (f) in less than 30 minutes, but this obviously consumes power and gas. We ask house sitters to share these expenses, depending on their personal usage.
Water delivery is non-potable water so it is used for everything except drinking and cooking. We have to buy 5 gal. water bottles for consumption. Life and living in Baja can be physically demanding and require patience and fortitude. Basic spanish is preferred.
