He's about 15 pounds, terrier mix, and he is completely devoted to us. Hates it when we leave him at the kennel. We've successfully used HouseCarers when we had another dog, so we're going to try with our little guy, Dexter.
Dexter needs to be walked twice a day. He doesn't come when he's called, so needs to be on leash when outside. We're looking for someone(s) who will be consistent, calm, and kind with him. He's from a shelter and it's likely he's had a hard life before he came to live with us. He will stubbornly refuse to do anything to anyone who yells at him, which is totally annoying. So you're going to have to be a dog whisperer to this guy. Anyone who's used to more obedient breeds would probably not do well with him.
He likes to chase his little teddy bear around the house, in addition to taking big boy walks, but otherwise is pretty mellow. He will bite you if you do things like pick him up without giving him a warning. He's testy and feisty and the more he's with us, the more he's becoming a really good boy.
The perfect person would be a writer or someone who works online in our home so he won't be left alone for too long. Non-smoking. We've got high speed internet and television. Full kitchen, bedroom guest nap room, small office. Deep bathtub with shower head. Washer/dryer & dishwasher. Wood burning stove for cozy winter days and nights (we burn wood all the time except overnight), but we also have regular electric heating. Small cottage with lots of light in the Laurentian mountains, one hour north of Montreal. We normally get quite a lot of snow, which you would also have to shovel (in order to get out). We have a snowplow come to clear the driveway.
We are a lesbian couple, one of us is native English speaker, and the other is native french speaker. Our town is franco - not many English speakers in the winter time. But almost everyone is super friendly even if all you know how to say in French is "My dog is castrated."
We are close to a few downhill ski hills, and also some cross country trails. Ice skating on the lake at the bottom of the hill from us. There are snow shoe 'trails' behind our house that go very far in the woods...but the caveat is that you'll usually have to break the trails with the constant snow.
Close to shops and a few restaurants. Close to other villages that have even better places to eat and shop.
We need someone to come for the month of January. We have flexibility if you want to stay a bit longer - we have a small inlaw unit upstairs that would work with the right person or couple.
Open to good people, gay straight, or otherwise.
