We are looking for a house sitter to maintain our vegetable and flower gardens from July 5 to August 3, 2018.
Our home is on Bainbridge Island, a 35-minute ferry ride away from Seattle and with easy access via bridge to Washington’s beautiful Olympic Peninsula. Enjoy our 2013-built, 3,300 square foot home and one acre property in a quiet, walkable neighborhood with nearby beach access. The island has much to offer including numerous parks, wineries and farms. Access to water sports and beaches abounds as well as hiking and cycling opportunities for all levels. We have a fantastic farmers market, unique shops and restaurants, including James Beard-award winning chefs, and a great local pub. Bainbridge has its own art museum, and the renowned gardens of Bloedel Reserve. The island is known for its active performing and fine arts communities.
We are looking for a single person or couple with some gardening knowledge to maintain our organic vegetable garden and English-style cutting garden. For us this means watering it appropriately and doing some light weeding. While most of our landscaping plantings are established and don’t need much attention, we do have one newly planted area that will also need watering and light maintenance. You are welcome to all the produce of the garden, as well as any ripe fruits (raspberries, blueberries, strawberries).
We have five chickens and an outdoor-living rabbit but you are not expected to care for them. A professional chicken sitter whom we know and trust will come once a day to let them out, feed them, maintain the coop and hutch, etcetera, and she will have access to our garage and the yard. Of course, you are welcome to all the farm fresh eggs you can eat!
We will be out of the country during this time, but have family on-island who will be available in the event of any unforeseen issues or emergencies related to the house.
The room for you to stay in is our guest bedroom on the first floor. It has a full-sized bed and a bathroom with a shower directly adjacent.
We have air-conditioning, WIFI, and an automatic generator in the event of power loss. We do not have a great television option for guests, so we would suggest bringing an iPad. Ours is a chef’s kitchen if you enjoy cooking, and we also have a baby grand piano. In our garage is a power rack with barbells and a full set of weight plates.
A car is a must. While we are on a bus line, we are not within walking distance to any amenities. Taxi service is available on the island. We have two grocery stores, several pharmacies, and an urgent care facility on the island, but you will need to travel off island for 24-hour pharmacy and emergency services. There are no “big box” stores on Bainbridge; it’s about 25 minutes to the nearest Target and similar stores.
We would not be opposed if you wanted to leave for a maximum of two nights to explore the area.
