Housesitter couple needed to look after an idyllic rural property on Banks Peninsula, South Island, New Zealand from 19 August 2018 to the first week of March 2019, 6 1/4 months.
This is a fantastic property for writers, artists, online entrepreneurs, pensioners, retirees or anyone who enjoys the quiet rural life. The property overlooks multiple bays of Akaroa Harbor and even affords a limited view of the Southern Alps over a low saddle in the rim of the old volcano. If you enjoy nature, you will not be able to experience all Banks Peninsula has to offer during this housesit. There are many hiking trails and bays to explore within a short drive of the property. The housesitters will be responsible for maintaining the house, lawn and vegetable garden. Therefore, you must be physically capable to do normal house cleaning and physically capable and knowledgable to use a lawn mower and whipper snipper along with various hand tools to maintain the lawn and garden. This property is on a hillside, so you must be able to deal with uneven, steep ground. There are no animals to tend. Water is from a spring which may require your attention. Maintaining the property should take no more than 8-10 hours a week.
Our main concern is having the property occupied and maintained the way we leave it: doing the normal house cleaning, cutting the lawn and weed whacking the hillsides on a regular basis, and planting and maintaining a vegetable garden for our return.
In exchange for taking care of our property, the housesitters will have a place to stay in one of the most beautiful spots in New Zealand. Additionally, reasonable high speed internet access and landline calls within New Zealand and multiple other countries are included.
The housesitters are responsible for all electrical usage, charges not covered by phone plan, and any internet usage in excess of 40GB. Plus the housesitters are responsible for any additional gas and oil that may be required for the lawn mower and whipper snipper (weed whacker) or any bottle gas for the grill.
This is an older house built in 1981 which we are in the process of updating. It does not have air conditioning. The housesitters living area is the entire first floor and the basement. The first floor has been updated with 5-zone, in-floor, electric heating and includes the living/dining area, kitchen, small bedroom with queen size bed, toilet, and shower room. The basement is where the washer and dryer are located.
The housesitters will need their own transportation. There is no public transportation from the property. The nearest public transportation is in Akaroa which is about 7 kilometres away.
