My Mennonite mother ensured I leave homes cleaner than I found them, and Paul’s mechanic father made sure he can fix things properly (i.e., without breaking them or leaving them worse than he found them.) We are surprised these lessons have resurfaced after our work lives in multinational companies, as well as our parents’ concern for the environment but hope you can benefit from them.
Typically we have cleaned, collected (and forwarded) mail as required and managed repairmen, deliveries and seasonal changeovers (cleaning and storing garden furniture and ensuring outside taps are off and drained).
We’ve watered (indoors and outdoors), weeded, cut grass, sprayed and dead-headed roses, kept walkways clear of leaves, litter and snow and occasionally planted seedlings and containers.
We’ve looked after indoor and outdoor cats, old and young, and our first dogs since childhood!
We’ve fed, watered and brushed them, emptied litter boxes, cleaned up accidents and hairballs, taken them to the vet and administered medication. They’ve slept with us if they (and you) liked.
