We are a married couple with homes in Northern Ireland and the Charente, France. Robert, semi retired, still lives and works in renovation work in France, while I, Nuala, spend a large part of my time in Ireland caring for my elderly mother. Robert needs to return to the UK for a 2/3 month period over the winter, to enable him to have some healthcare treatment not affordable in France. When away at other times of the year, and for short periods, one of our lovely neighbours feeds our 2 rather spoilt cats for us. However, while they spend their days outdoors most of the year, when the cold weather comes, they head indoors! For this reason mainly, and as an added advantage I.e have someone keep an eye on things, we are looking for a house sitter to stay while Robert is away. The dates are flexible and length of stay is adaptable.
We live in rural France, where nature abounds and life is slow. We are gifted with beautiful surroundings, panoramic views and friendly neighbours. Our house is anything but luxurious. It was abandoned and derelict when we bought it and much of it is still a renovation project. It is a typical stone built charentaise house, semi detached, with a courtyard, garden and land down to the river below. In winter, which though short, can be very cold, we use one third of the house, large kitchen/living room with 2 ensuite bedrooms above. A car is essential as our hamlet does not have shops. Nevertheless, we are located in a fantastic location for house hunters, those seeking peace and quiet, and anyone looking to experience France at its best. Though in a rural location, all amenities are nearby, cities such as Angouleme, Poitiers and Limoges are within easy reach and the coast is a lovely day trip away.
