I’ve been house and pet sitting for friends’ horses, dogs, cats, parrots and chickens for many years.
I’ve been around horses all my life and was very lucky to grow up on a dairy farm where we also raised Quarter horses. I worked with thoroughbreds for many years and was a vet tech at a horse hospital in Virginia for several years. These days I get my “horse fixes” by volunteering with local therapeutic riding programs and horse rescue associations.
I love to garden and landscape and have earned a certificate in Horticulture through the USDA Graduate School. I have a BS degree in Wildlife and Forest Biology that led to a long career in the environmental non-profit world and international travel. On the local level, as executive director of an 800 acre natural area in Virginia I led volunteer crews who built and maintained many miles of public hiking trails.
Besides horses, my special love is cats and I’ve been “owned” by some very special ones over the years. Being semi-retired and traveling a great deal, I made the decision not to have pets of my own at home at present. House and pet sitting gives me the opportunity to spend time with the animals I love so much while traveling to interesting places. A win, win!
I will take good care of your furred and feathered friends while you’re on vacation. And you can relax knowing your home and garden are being lovingly tended while you are away.
