We are looking for a responsible and reliable house sitter or couple to care for our home, plants and pets when we are away. The house is off grid in a stunning mountain location 15 minutes (walking or driving) below the village of Yegen.
It is important to us that the house and gardens are well maintained and tidy. It is important that you can arrive a week or 2 before we go so that you can learn all you need for caring for our off grid home whilst we are away, the spring water system filters need regular maintenance to keep the flow steady.
Essential daily care includes two simple dry feeds a day for 4 cats & a dog who live outdoors. Feeding needs observing to ensure that the boys, Benny dog, Khan & Rusty don't eat all the food and leave Mooshi & Tila hungry. Giving fresh water & caring for hens, including ensuring that they have free roaming time & don't escape the fenced area.
Benny the dog needs walks and play at least once a day. All the pets enjoy cuddles, brushing and attention. Benny is a rescue dog with some specific needs which we can explain when you apply.
We have hens & a friendly cockeral who need letting out first thing in the morning, and shutting in at dusk. Their food needs changing on average every 5 days & we give them food scraps daily.
Garden care invloves watering plants daily, weeding and harvesting.
Our toilet is a compost system and involes simple daily attention to empty your bucket to the compost heap.
We have 2 hectares of land with a variety of trees to be cared for and evolving gardens which need regular attention. Trees and vines need watering once a week. The spring water system needs some maintenance for the house and land, checking, cleaning & changing filters, occassionally hiking 10 minutes up to the spring to do some work there. In summer this is a very important aspect to maintaining the gardens and you can also run an acecia once a week to fill the water storage for some of the land.
The house has unlimited wifi, a wood stove to use in winter, shower and kitchen facilities. You can either sleep in our yurt on a comfortable double bed or the double sofa bed in the house living room. Both are very comfortable beds.
The land is peaceful, in beautiful nature over looking the mountains. Yegen has a small Coviran shop, a gift shop, a wonderful pizza restaurant, a few bars, a pharmacy and doctors within 15 minutes hiking or 4x4 driving route. You need to be fit and in reasonably good health to enjoy this landscape as it is a remote location.
The nearest bank, post office, hospital and other facilities are 20minutes drive from Yegen in Cadiar or Ugijar. There are two buses a day to and from Yegen so please plan your journies effectively.
Smoking is permitted but only in specific areas, outdoors only & not in the yurt please.
Due to fire risks in this region we ask you to be very careful.
Outdoor fires are strictly forbidden in this region for good reason.
Bringing your own pets is not allowed.
From July to the end of August public swimming pools are open near to Mecina Bomberon, in Ugijar and Cadiar, the cost is around 2€ per person. You can also take a dip in cold natural spring pools nearby. There are many fiestas and you can find details online.
During your stay we will be available for contact via whatsapp any time and for any questions. We hope that you will enjoy to care for our home.
We regularly host WWOOF volunteers here at Cortijo Solaris & we help to run a local community forest school project called Nido Creativo, incase you want to learn more about these projects.
One long term volunteer, Alejandro, should still be staying this summer in 2022, he has been helping us for almost 2 years through WWOOF & knows the place very well. He can support with water maintenance but needs extra support to offer animal care, dog walks, ensuring all plants get enough water and attention, harvesting fruits and vegetables, and generally keeping the place tidy and loved.
Come to enjoy this peaceful place in the sun with mountain spring water, fresh clean air & hiking in natures magic.
