I’m a touring musician, looking for a house sitter to care for my very friendly dog, “Scooter” and to watch my Palomino horse, Cotton (Cotton has a spring fed pond to drink from and plenty of pasture) while I’m on the road. The house was built in 1800 and was passed down through generations of the Marshal family until I bought the homestead back in It’s a beautiful little house (surrounded by Boxwood bushes for a little extra privacy) that sits on 20 pretty acres with additional open acres surrounding the property. The front and back porches make for a relaxing hangout after supper or whenever you have the urge to kick back and sip some tea or a glass of wine. There are three fire places; one in the kitchen one, in the living room and one in my room. There is a washer and dryer in the cellar and a clothes line out back. There is a gas range, microwave, fridge and a convection oven/toaster in a spacious kitchen.
When you need to stock up on food or a trip to the pharmacy the town of Hillsville is only a 15 minute drive from the house. On Memorial Day weekend Hillsville hosts one of the largest Flea Market gatherings in the USA. It’s quite something.
There are plenty of hiking trails on the property and beyond. There is a small spring fed pond towards the back of the property. There are two peach trees, a plum tree, two pear trees and a larger “early apple tree” just behind the house and a couple of blueberry bushes as well.
Finally, there are some spectacular views in this area that I’m sure you’ll want to check out. If you’re into fishing or kayaking, a five minute drive from the house will take you to the New River which offers some of the best fishing in the south. Less than a 45-minute drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the small town of Floyd, which is well-known for its music scene.
