We are Rob & Felicity, British citizens who have taught in 12 different International Schools on 4 continents over a 40 year period. We have now retired to our longtime home in Southern France. We are experienced dog and cat owners (or should that read: we have been owned by experienced dogs and cats?!) We are healthy and active non-smokers. We recently travelled back to Europe from Hong Kong without using any planes. It was boats, cars and trains all the way.
After decades helping young people from a myriad of nationalities to better themselves, we have decided that we've done enough for humans for now; we plan to devote our time and energy to animals for a while!
Our "pack" of rescued dogs and cats all came to the end of their long and rich lives at about the same time a few years ago. Since by then we were living on a boat in Hong Kong harbour, it was not really feasible to adopt any replacements. Now that we are back in Europe, we are still holding off. Brexit uncertainties and a desire to travel a lot mean that we cannot yet commit to permanent pets.
Our strategy instead is to share pets where we can, and especially to help other pet owners improve the quality of their pets' lives. Here in our village, we regularly walk a dog who's owner was tragically murdered 18 months ago, and we take in an aged Dalmatian when her owner goes back to England. And this is where our house/pet sitting hopes stem from.
We are experienced home owners. We have had our large old house in France for over 20 years, and during that time, we have overseen several major improvements, and carried out dozens of minor ones ourselves. We are both fluent French speakers.
We are also very experienced handling and relating to dogs. While working in Bangkok, we were heavily involved with the Soi Dog Rescue organisation. We frequently fostered rescued dogs to socialise and housetrain them prior to their transfer to permanent homes overseas; and we ran an activity with students in which we would visit temples which had large streetdog populations and have a vaccinating/grooming blitz.
We would be thrilled to meet your menagerie (whatever it may consist of) and would be fully committed to providing them with a rewarding and enriched existence, and providing you peace of mind, while you are travelling.
