I am a self-employed seasonal berry farmer in Moncton, NB, with a very broad set of skills and experience in animal care, yard and home maintenance and renovation.
Why housesitting?
I live on a 75 acre property with my husband, stepson, 3 german shorthaired pointers, 2 horses, icelandic sheep, and a couple of dozen laying hens. Our property is a paradise, and since taking it over we have worked endlessly to repair, renovate, and make it our own. That being said, I never take a vacation. Ever. With aspirations to attend medical school, I am currently studying to write the MCAT in June 2024, and am looking for housesits to provide intermittent periods of peace and quiet for me to concentrate on preparing for the exam.
Experience and Skills
I have had wonderful house- and petsitting experiences with friends; it is my nature to not only care for the pets and the home, but to complete odd jobs (i.e., stacking wood) and take on small, but appreciated, tasks (i.e., deep cleaning refridgerator, scrubbing floors).
Over the past 20 years I have had 6 years of professional experience caring for a variety of animals --particularly dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, sheep, and chickens --through my past work as a dog and cat boarding kennel owner/operator and as a veterinary assistant/technician at animal hospitals in the Canadian Maritimes. Given my own household, it is no surprise that I am an avid animal lover -- each pet's unique personality and needs are important to me to understand in order to develop a connection with them.
I have held maintenance jobs with the Government of Canada and am a retired Canadian Military veteran. I have lived in a lot of different places with varying amenities, with a variety of experience in household, outbuilding, and lawn/garden repairs and maintenance.
What can you expect from me as caretaker for your beloved pets and home?
As caretaker of your property and pets, I will meticulously maintain your pets' routines and feeding schedules; respect your space and privacy; uphold household maintenance; and leave your property as clean and tidy upon your arrival as it was upon your departure.
I am naturally a good communicator and would love to send you photos and updates on your pets and the property during your absence, at whatever frequency (daily, weekly, etc.) is desired.
