We are looking for a responsible cat lover to care for our sweet kitty, Cinder, and our 1920s house for 2 weeks in October. If you love cats and love outdoor sports--such as hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking--you'll want to come to our spot of the world this fall.
There’s nothing difficult about what needs to be done: feed, water, and love on Cinder; water the plants; take out the trash; and generally, make sure things are working okay in the house. Okay--I might ask you to feed the sourdough starter!
The house is about 2000 sf, has been renovated, and is in great shape. You would stay in the guest bedroom which has a queen-size bed and lovely light. There is a beautiful 2nd-floor reading room with windows on 3 sides, a comfy chair, and an adjustable standing desk. We can provide access to a Mac computer, if needed. Until recently, I worked remotely, so there's solid internet fast enough for video conferencing. A TV room takes up the 3rd floor and there is a small backyard with a patio, hammock, and grill.
The neighborhood is very walkable and safe, with restaurants, a co-op, movie theater, library, bike shop, etc. less than a mile away in Grandin Village. The Roanoke River Greenway—which runs 14 miles along the river—is less that 2 miles away, and the Murray Run Greenway is less than a mile away. Roanoke is known for its hiking, mountain biking, and paddling, and the fall is a beautiful time to be here. You can get to finest hiking on the Appalachian Trail in about 20 minutes. Downtown Roanoke is lively with restaurants, music venues, several museums, and a weekly farmers market.
We do request that the house/cat sitter be vaccinated againt COVID-19 and refrains from smoking in the house. And since Cinder is an old lady who enjoys having the run of the house, we request that no other cat or dog be brought into the house.
