I am a semi-retired physician seeking house sitting opportunities over the next year or so.
I am primarily interested in locations in northern New Mexico and in Oregon, though at times I am available for other locations in USA or around the world. I was a house and pet sitter for a month around Christmas 2023 in Slovenia.
My partner is a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who would be with me part of the time that I would be housesitting. She works as a therapist and has a hybrid practice in New Mexico.
She and I regularly offer events and training processes in person and online. I have my own mobile Starlink internet which I can activate if the household internet speed is too slow for stable videoconferencing.
We are non smokers, minimal drinking (2 ounces of wine once a week at dinner), no drugs, quiet - we don't party. We are conscientious with the lives and well-being of the people who come to us for assistance in our professional lives, and also with other people's property.
Our family has had several cats, and many dogs - mostly larger ones (German Shepherds, Collies, Lab-Shepherd mix). There is a Husky along with 2 cats presently on my father's property that we care for. There are also horses that a neighbor keeps there for grazing. When my children were younger, we also had pet Egyptian Spiny Mice, Pygmy Hedgehogs, a corn snake, rescued greyhound, white rats - not all at the same time :)
From , I lived part-time with my 87-year-old father on his 40-acre property near Hudson, NY. In the 1980's, I helped him build two of the houses there (by hand, as there was no electricity on the property back then) . He still takes care of the property and operates heavy equipment (!); I assist him when I am there.
I worked as an ER physician for over 25 years. I also studied auto mechanics back in the day when there was room under the hood and less computerized components in vehicles, so I am able to do some minor maintenance on vehicles, run tractors and fix some equipment. I am very comfortable with wood and pellet stoves, have cleaned chimneys and replaced motors in pellet stoves.

I have a low clearance electric vehicle (Tesla Model 3). Dirt, snow or gravel are no problem, but if high vehicle clearance is needed to access your place, that could be prohibitive for me.

Bruce spent 6 months in our home in 2024 and was an wonderful caretaker. We do not have pets, but have dozens of house plants and outdoor trees that need watering and attention. It was wonderful to return to see how the plants had grown under his care and to find our greenhouse ready with some swiss chard. He also did small unsolicited repairs (fixed a closet door that had been on our list to repair for years...) and stacked fire wood. Our house was clean, tidy and well cared for when we returned.
Bruce would send us regular email updates about the house and his activities, which was very reassuring while we were out of the country and not within easy reach should something go wrong and gave us peace of mind that he was enjoying our home.
Bruce and Camilla enter all spaces they occupy with care and mindful intention. They would be very welcome back to our home any time and we highly recommend them.

SolidSoul took care of our cat Chester while we went back to the US for a month-long visit over the holidays. We couldn't have asked for a more competent and communicative home sitter. Chester took to him right away, and SolidSoul was super-conscientious, he sent detailed updates, and took great care of both Chester and our apartment. He was also genuniely interested in learning about our adopted home of Slovenia, and has a uniquely interesting background. He instilled a great amount of confidence in us to where we really didn't worry about our little guy or our apartment while we were away. We would gladly have him back for future stays.

Yama the dog liked Bruce upon first meeting and so did I. During our initial talk and meeting, Bruce asked questions about Yama and the house. It’s a solar-powered home and he wanted to understand its workings.
He kept in touch while I was away. I felt confident my beloved dog and home were in good hands. And they were. I came home to a clean house and a happy dog.
Bruce is welcome back anytime — I would even schedule my vacation around his timing!

We hit the jackpot with Bruce caring for out pets and home for a week. He came out in advance to get to know our household and routine, and took copious notes, had great questions and walked the dogs during his visit. We really enjoyed getting to know Bruce prior to his stay and we felt absolutely confident in trusting him.
Bruce kept us updated and went on many walks with our 3 dogs. Our chicken waterer broke before we left and Bruce changed water daily even though it was icing over and difficult. He watered our plants better than I do, and even stacked wood!
We came home to happy, content animals and a very clean home, all ready for us to settle back in. Anyone who gets Bruce is going to be blessed!

Bruce is one of the most consciencious and quiet, kind housesitters we have had. This was our initial experience with him, and he was so wonderful we had him come back twice again! He is so good with our dear old Labrador Guido, that when we returned Guido wasnt sure who he wanted to go with! He actually looked around for him for a day after he left! I can't say enough about how clean careful and attentive he was for all three of our housesits. At each of our returns to our home, he not only left the house spotless, but also wrote a full report about all the responsibilites and issues with our home and bird feeders, checking mousetraps and shoveling our walkways. He truly goes above and beyond... We are only sad that he may not be available again for the spring. Thank you so much Bruce!
